Trimming tool and tracing roller on a single axis
Another key aid to achieving minimized centrifugal force is to reduce the moment of inertia. HOMAG achieves this in the FK31 powerTrim by arranging the trimming tools and the tracing roller on one and the same axis. In addition, this arrangement results in increased structural rigidity and consequently in reliable tracing and trimming tool guidance.
Electronic tracing
In classical trimming units, the tracing force is adjusted at the tracing roller by means of a mechanical spring. With the FK31 powerTrim, the HOMAG designers have come up with an electronic tracing function with independently adjustable tracing force and tracing path. The tracing force is stored in the workpiece program. This solution eliminates any impairment due to the wear of mechanical components such as tracing springs or pneumatic cylinders.
Variable tracing roller diameter
In standard customarily available profile trimming units, adjustment of the tracing function in line with the tool poses something of challenge, particularly at the leading or trailing edge of the workpiece. In the case of postforming and softforming parts, in the past this issue has frequently been known to compromise quality. Using the FK31 powerTrim, this tracing roller can be operated with different roller diameters at the trailing and leading edge. The change in size takes place in a similar way to a balloon, but over the entire width of the tracing roller with a constant diameter.
Minimal tracing roller surface pressure
When using conventional narrow tracing rollers, there is a risk that impressions could be created on the surface, particularly along the face ends of workpieces. To address this issue, the FK31 powerTrim is equipped with a particularly wide tracing roller which leaves no impressions even when different tracing roller diameters are required – no matter how sensitive the surface.
Rolling-action lateral tracing unit
The lateral tracing rollers of all profile trimming units available in the marketplace are designed with sliding elements for technical reasons. This gives rise to the danger of damage to sensitive edges and protective film, and to the creation of shiny marks. HOMAG’s rolling-action lateral tracing unit, which is not only available for the FK31 powerTrim , reduces the risk of shiny marks to ZERO. This represents a major step forward towards optimum production quality even for parts with sensitive edges.
